This is one of my favorites! I appropriated Van Gogh's Starry Night and reimagined it as if it had been painted in the 21 century. I adapted his beautiful stroke-like style (but with oil pastels rather than paint) and recreated the gorgeous scene in the background. However, I covered it with all of the fast food restaurants and chain stores we see in today's cities to comment on our new-found fascination with consumerism.

Starry Night in the 21st Century
This is one of my favorites! I appropriated Van Gogh's Starry Night and reimagined it as if it had been painted in the 21 century. I adapted his beautiful stroke-like style (but with oil pastels rather than paint) and recreated the gorgeous scene in the background. However, I covered it with all of the fast food restaurants and chain stores we see in today's cities to comment on our new-found fascination with consumerism.
Dinosaur

This was for a time-sequence assignment. I wanted to do something more original that seasons, or days passing, so I decided to show the extinction of the dinosaurs through a continuous image of a single dinosaur: from living in the lush jungles, to barely surviving the catastrophic events that destroyed the species, and finally to being discovered by humans.

Landscapes

These are some landscapes. The first is done with pen and ink, a medium which is still very new to me. Learning how to create different values out of black ink (and without spilling) was a challenge! The second is done in pastel, a medium I am much more comfortable with. I just love the saturated colors in this one!
